Varanasi, Apr 24 (IBNS) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday slammed the attack on senior party leader Somnath Bharti and said those people who will oppose the Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will have to face a similar situation.

"Is this what you term as Gujarat model? It seems those who are opposing Modi will be threatened, bribed or attacked," Kejriwal said here.

Bharti was attacked in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi city on Wednesday.

AAP alleged that the attack was carried out by 'BJP supporters'.

The incident occurred during a TV show recording.

"BJP supporters beat up AAP leader .@attorneybharti during a TV show," the AAP tweeted.

"The incident took place up at Assi Ghat in Varanasi. .@attorneybharti was badly beaten," it said.

"@attorneybharti's car was attacked and window panes were also broken. His driver was also attacked," the party posted on its Twitter homepage.

The incident happened on a day when Kejriwal on Wednesday filed his nomination from Varanasi to fight the Lok Sabha elections.

"From the huge response we got from the people of Varanasi, we are confident to win," said Kejriwal as a massive crowd cheered for him as he filed his nomination papers.

"The people of Varanasi have decided not to vote for the Congress or the BJP. They have decided to choose a person they can interact with on a daily basis," he said.

The AAP leader, who is fighting the Lok Sabha polls from here and pitted against Modi, will stay in Varanasi till May 12 when the nine-phase elections in India ends.
