23 sarpanches resign in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 25 (IBNS): A day after elections were conducted in South Kashmir amid violent clashes and protests, at least 23 village heads declared their resignations in Kulgam town on Friday.
According to reports, at least 14 village heads including two sarpanches, two deputy sarpanches and 10 panchas announced their resignation in a local Masjid during Friday congregational prayers in Bugam area of Kulgam. 
 
Their names were read by the local Imam through public address system.
     
Reports also said that seven village heads who resigned from Sonigam
Kulam included a panch from Chhatargam Tral namely Rajindar Singh and another deputy sarpanch from Naboog Kund Qazigund.
 
Earlier on  Apr 23, 25 sarpanches publicly resigned in South Kashmir days after a Congress sarpanch was killed in Pulwama district.
