Congress alleges Modi has Hawala links

India Blooms News Service | | 28 Apr 2014, 04:07 pm
New Delhi, Apr 28 (IBNS) Amid a raging war-of-words between the Congress led by the Gandhi family and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over corruption, the Congress on Monday alleged that the latter's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has links with an alleged hawala operator named Afroz Patta.

Releasing photos of Modi and Patta to the media, Congress spokesman Randeep Surjewala said: "Patta's photographs are proudly displayed on the BJP website as well as Narendra Modi's website. Will Modi agree to an independent probe now?"

"Shouldn’t Narendra Modi and BJP disclose the nature of relationship with the Hawala operator Afroz Patta with India?" he asked.

The Congress said it has proof that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of Surat and Ahmedabad recovered a Rs 700-crore hawala scam after conducting raids at Phatta's house.

"The ED conducted raids at the premises of Phatta who can be seen at many events of Modi. He even visits Modi's residence," Surjewala alleged.

Pertinently, the BJP has been cornering the ruling Congress over the alleged illegal land deals of party supremo Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Roberty Vadra.
