Modi's politics borders on fascism: Chidambaram

India Blooms News Service | | 29 Apr 2014, 08:58 pm
New Delhi, Apr 29 (IBNS): Attacking Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has called him fascist and also a chief minister of an average state.
"Narendra Modi's politics borders on fascism. India doesn't need a Hitler or Mussolini to solve its problems," Chidambaram told NDTV channel in an interview.

Like Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, he also said that, "Don't need a 56-inch chest to solve the country's problems."

"Modi makes extraordinary promises, how will he deliver?" asked the Congress veteran.

"Modi is the Chief Minister of an average state. To say Gujarat Model is the best model is simply balderdash," Chidambaram told the channel.

He said the Congress should have named its Vice President as PM candidate.

"My personal view Rahul (Gandhi) should have been declared PM candidate," he said and also added that "Priyanka (Gandhi) has to decide on larger role, party can't pressure her."

Speaking on the recent attacks on him, Chidambaram said, "Mamata (Banerjee) says I sanctioned Enforcement Directorate, Modi says I'm protecting culprits. Why doesn't BJP file a complaint in (Robert) Vadra case?"

"Enforcement Directorate's action in Saradha chit fund scam not on my orders," he said.
