New Delhi: A gold robbery and three shooting incidents have rocked Delhi in the last 24 hours, highlighting a recent surge in criminal activity, media reports said.

A gold merchant from Karol Bagh was robbed of approximately 4 kg of gold, worth over Rs 3.5 crore, by bike-borne assailants in north Delhi's Gulabi Bagh on Friday night, according to an NDTV report.

Police have launched an investigation based on CCTV footage to track down the culprits.

Earlier that evening, an extortion-related shooting occurred at 'Car Street Mini,' a second-hand luxury car showroom in Naraina, southwest Delhi, just a kilometer away from the local police station, the report said.

Three men fired over 20 rounds at the showroom, damaging four luxury cars, including two BMWs, a Mini Cooper, and a Mercedes.

The attackers left behind a note signed "Bhau Gang, Since 2020," referring to notorious gangster Himanshu Bhau, who fled to Portugal in 2022.

Sources revealed that the showroom owners had been extorted for Rs 5 crore.

The police have identified the shooters and registered a case against them.

In another incident, 5-6 shots were fired at Hotel Impress in Mahipalpur, shattering its glass gate.

This shooting also thought to be an extortion attempt, followed a threat call to the owner in the name of Canada-based gangster Goldie Brar,  the report said.

A third incident took place at a sweet shop in Nangloi, West Delhi, where a slip bearing the name of jailed gangster Deepak Boxer was found.

The police are investigating the series of incidents as gang-related activities aimed at extortion.
