Haryana voting to elect new assembly today

Over 2 crore eligible voters are expected to exercise their franchise with Haryana voting to elect a new Assembly on Saturday.

In the single-phased polls, electors are voting to elect 90 seats.

Voting began at 7 am in the morning and it will continue till 6 pm.

With Congress hoping to give a tough challenge and return to power after 10 years, the Bharatiya Janata Party is battling the polls to return to power for the third consecutive term.

The key candidates, who are contesting the polls, are Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat, JJP leader Dushyant Chautala.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is expected to play the role of a kingmaker in the polls.

A total of 1,031 candidates are contesting in the election.

The BJP had won 40 seats in the 2019 polls.

Indian PM Narendra Modi urged voters to cast their votes in record numbers.
