Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday inaugurated the Consulate General of India in Brisbane during his ongoing visit to Australia.

"Delighted to formally inaugurate new Consulate General of India in Brisbane today,"the Indian Minister posted on X.

He said the new consulate would contribute to strengthening India’s ties with Queensland state.

He said it would promote trade, foster educational linkages and serve the diaspora.

Jaishankar met Queensland Governor Jeannette Young when they discussed opportunities and ways to strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation with Queensland.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar paid tributes to India's Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's statue at Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane.

"Offered my tribute this morning to Mahatma Gandhi at Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane," he wrote on X along with an image of himself paying tribute to Gandhi.

Jaishankar is visiting Australia between November 3 and November 7.

Jaishankar will also co-chair the 15th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue (FMFD) with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Canberra.

The EAM will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session of the 2nd Raisina Down Under to be held in the Australian Parliament House.

He is also scheduled to have interactions with Australian leadership, parliamentarians, members of the Indian diaspora, business community, media and think tanks.

After completing his Australian tour, Jaishankar will visit Singapore on November 8.

He will address the 8th Roundtable of ASEAN – India Network of Think Tanks.
