Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy booked for threatening cop probing into mining case
Bengaluru/IBNS: Union Minister and Janata Dal Secular leader HD Kumaraswamy has been booked for allegedly threatening a police officer who is probing into a mining case involving the politician, media reports said.
A case has been registered against Kumaraswamy on the basis of a complaint filed by Inspector General of Police M Chandra Sekhar on Monday.
Chandra Sekhar alleged Kumaraswamy, a former Karnataka Chief Minister, had threatened a government employee who was heading a Special Investigation Team probing into a mining case where the JDS leader is an accused.
It has been alleged that Kumaraswamy had prevented the government employee from discharging his duties.
Kumaraswamy is accused of violating law by approving a 550-acre mining lease to Sri Sai Venkateswara Minerals (SSVM) in Bellary district of Karnataka when he was the Chief Minister from 2006 to 2008.
Sekhar's complaint has been quoted by Hindustan Times, "The SIT, after preparing the investigation report and having found substantial evidence and material to prosecute the accused (Kumaraswamy), had written to H.E. Governor of Karnataka seeking sanction for prosecution against the accused Sh. H.D. Kumaraswamy on 21/11/2023."
