India Blooms News Service | | 28 Apr 2015, 07:04 pm
New Delhi, Apr 28 (IBNS): Answering the need of humanitarian aid, more Israeli planes carrying emergency supplies landed in Nepal throughout Monday night, an official statement said.
These were two 747 Israeli government chartered El Al planes, two C130J and one 707 Israeli Air Force plane.

The safe arrival of these planes in Kathmandu witnessed the effective ongoing cooperation of India and Israel.

India granted Israeli planes to pass its airspace on the way to Nepal, carrying tons of relief material.

Israeli Ambassador to India, Daniel Carmon is maintaining close contact with Indian high level Government officials to coordinate access for the Israeli relief efforts.

Following the landing of the Israeli planes, Ambassador Carmon said, "Today, we have seen success in the efforts to land 5 Israeli planes through Indian airspace into Nepal.."

The Israeli planes were carrying more than 70 tons of medical supplies, 260 medical and rescue personnel, including a field hospital to treat those injured in the disaster.

Earlier in the day, the first batch of 200 Israelis returned back home from Nepal.

Meanwhile, the death toll from Saturday's massive earthquake crossed over 5000 in the Himalayan nation.

The death toll could reach 10,000 as rescue and relief operations are going on war footing in the devastated country, officials said.

"The death toll could go up to 10,000 because information from remote villages hit by the earthquake is yet to come in," media reports quoted  Prime Minister Sushil  Koirala as saying.

"The government is doing all it can for rescue and relief on a war footing," he added. "It is a challenge and a very difficult hour for Nepal," he said.

The  Himalayan nation was hit by a fresh tremor measuring 4.5 on the Richter Scale on Tuesday.

The epicentre of the quake, which is located at latitude 28 degree north and latitude  85.4 degree east, hit the country at 4:50 hrs IST.

Thousands of people are still camped outside in Nepal's capital Kathmandu, huddled under makeshift tents. Food, water and fuel are running scarce.

Relief and rescue operations were stepped up on Monday.
