Jayalalitha meets TN Governor, to take oath on Saturday
Jayalalithaa stepped out of her Pose Garden residence in the afternoon and drove straight to Raj Bhavan, about 10 km away.
This was her first public appearance in eight months since she was convicted by a Bengaluru court in September last year for amassing wealth disproportionate to her known source of income. The court sent her to imprisonment.
Jayalalithaa, however, was acquitted by the Karnatka High Court this month paving way for her come back to the Chief Minister's chair.
Supporters shower flower petals as her convoy headed to the Governor's house.
The 67--year-old "amma" as she is fondly called by her fans, is expected to be sworn-in with her council of ministers on Saturday, reports said.
In a rapid development Chief Minister O Panneerselvam resigned on Friday morning, soon after 144 of the AIADMK's 150 lawmakers met at the party headquarters in Chennai to unanimously elect Jayalalithaa as the leader of the legislature party.
Panneerselvam then met the Governor, who accepted his resignation.
The Governor then invited Jayalalithaa to form government "at the earliest," and asked her for a list of ministers who will take oath with her.
