Rajasthan HC raps state Govt for failing to arrest agitating Gujjars

Jaipur, May 28 (IBNS) The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday rapped the state's Chief Secretary and the DGP for not arresting those disrupting railway movement during the ongoing agitation by Gujjar community members demanding job reservation.

The court came down heavily on Chief Secretary CS Rajan and the DGP for failing to take measures to ensure normal movement of trains.

On  Wednesday, the state government had directed the local administration and police in four districts to evacuate Gujjar agitators from railway tracks and highways in compliance with a high court order.

The  High Court has also summoned the Rajasthan DGP and the Chief Secretary to appear before it to share what action has been taken to remove rail and road blockade put up as part of the Gujjar agitation.

Meanwhile,  Central forces are being  deployed in  Dausa to take charge of the law and order situation as talks are still going on to end the agitation of Gujjars.

Reports said another round of talks between Rajasthan government officials and Gujjar leaders will resume in Jaipur.

After the talks failed on Wednesday evening, the Gujjar delegation agreed  to hold another meeting.

"We were and are demanding quota within 50 percent. they made us wait for 4 days an then just told us that it will be a threat to social harmony. We are citizens of this country they cannot treat us like beggars. Will go back and discuss the issue with other leaders for further course of action," media reports quoted a Gujjar leader as saying.

Train services continue to be affected and around 30 trains have been cancelled and 11 diverted on Thursday.
