Guwahati, July 26 (IBNS) : Assam joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 16th anniversary of the Kargil Victory Day on Sunday.

The Red Horns Division of the Indian Army responsible for Counter Insurgency Operations in Lower Assam celebrated the function at its Headquarters based at Rangiya by hoisting an imposing National flag of 30 feet in length and 20 feet in width on a pole of 106 feet in height with majestic Ashoka Sthamb on top.

The flag hoisting was followed by singing the National Anthem, unveiling of inauguration stone and release of tricolor balloons.  The electrifying atmosphere created by the high-flying flag and soaring pride of its onlookers kindled the spirit of unity and peace in the country, the spirit that has been driving force behind all the endeavors of the Army.

The event was celebrated with full military decorum and solemnity. Other than the troops of Changsari and Rangiya garrisons, the District Collector Kamrup and Baksa, prominent civil dignitaries, ex-servicemen and school children were also present for the occasion.

All the dignitaries paid their tributes to martyrs and wished for the well-being, peace and tranquility of Assam.
