Gujarat: Medical team allows teenage rape victim to terminate 24 weeks pregnancy
Ahmedabad, July 30 (IBNS): In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court constituted medical team on Thursday allowed a 14-year-old rape victim to abort her foetus.
A five-member medical team, after thorough examination, came to the conclusion that the teenage be allowed to terminate her pregnancy.
The 14-year-old girl, who is 24 weeks pregnant, sought the permission of the Supreme Court to terminate her pregnancy.
The petition by the victim's parents said that the girl was raped by a doctor whom she had visited in February for treatment of typhoid.
Her father first approached the Himmatnagar sessions court seeking termination of her pregnancy, saying that she was in no position to take care of the child.
