The government earlier in the day confirmed that four Indian nationals were abducted in Libya allegedly by the Islamic State terror group.
The released Indian nationals have been identified as Lakshmikant and Vijay Kumar.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted: "Four Indians abducted in Libya - I am happy we have been able to secure the release of Lakshmikant and Vijay Kumar. Trying for other two."
MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted: "Welcome news from Libya. 2 of the 4 detained Indians brought back safely to University of Sirte. Our efforts continue for the remaining two."
The Indian nationals were reportedly university teachers who were abducted from Sirte town near Tripoli on Thursday evening.
In Iraq 39 Indians have been missing from the last year after they were kidnapped at the height of the fighting between Islamic militants and government forces.
