Indrani Mukherjee confesses to Sheena's murder : Police claim
Mumbai Aug 27 (IBNS) Indrani Mukerjea, an executive of the INX media group and the wife of former Star India CEO Peter Mukherjee, has reportedly confessed to the murder of Sheena Bora, her daughter from a previous relationship, media reports quoted police as having claimed.
Police have also started questioning Rahul, Peter Mukherjee's son from an earlier marriage since was having a relationship with Sheena which the Mukherjees were opposed to.
Indrani Mukherjee, who was arrested on Tuesday, used to present Sheena as her sister till the revelation of their true relationship that Peter Mukherjee claims was unaware of.
The remains of Sheena's body were found in a forest area of Maharashtra's Raigad in 2012, but her identity remained under cover till a chance revelation made by Indrani's driver, who was arrested by police in connection with another case.
Reports say police claim to have narrowed down two possible motives for the murder, allegedly carried out at the behest of Indrani Mukherjee, 43- her objection to Sheena dating his step-brother Rahul, Peter Mukherjee's son from a previous marriage and a possible financial tangle that involved INX Media.
Peter Mukherjee and Indrani co-founded INX of which the latter was the CEO.
Indrani's second husband, Sanjeev Khanna was arrested in Kolkata on Wednesdsay night and is being brought to Mumbai on Thursday subject to a court granting police his transit remand.
The police claim that Sheena Bora was last seen alive in a car with Indrani, her driver Shyam Rai, and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna.
Police say that in April 2012, Bora was strangled and her body was kept overnight in a car parked in Peter Mukerjea's garage. The next day, the body was allegedly driven to a forest in Raigad on the outskirts of Mumbai, where it was smothered in petrol and set on fire.
Meanwhile, senior Mumbai police officers, including chief Rakesh Maria have started interrogating Rahul Mukherjee to gather clues to the grisly crime which is believed to be the tip of many mysteries.
Rahul was said to have met Sheena hours before she left with Indrani Mukerjea in a car in 2012, never to be seen again.
The 22-year-old was allegedly murdered later that night.
Indrani Mukerjea allegedly told her family and friends that Sheena had left for the US for higher studies.
