Declassification of Netaji files: M Venkaiah Naidu welcomes Mamata's move
"I welcome the decision of the West Bengal Government to declassify the Netaji files. I hope one day the mystery of disappearance of Netaji will come out in the open," he told reporters while attending a programme in Kolkata.
Naidu said it is relatively easier for the state to declassify the Netaji files as states did not have to maintain international relations.
“The government of India has to deal with different nations. I do not know what are the actual problems that may arise if the files are declassified by the Centre," he said.
In a significant development. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday had announced that her government will make all files and documents concerning freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose 'public'.
"West Bengal government has decided to make all files and documents concerning Netaji public," she had told told media.
"All files concerning Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose will be in public domain from next Friday," she said.
Banerjee said: "All Netaji Files will be available at Kolkata Police Archives from next Friday. They will be in public domain."
