Saradha: Madan Mitra sent to judicial custody till Dec 3

Kolkata, Nov 20 (IBNS): The Alipore Court on Thursday night sent West Bengal's former cabinet minister Madan Mitra to judicial custody for 14 days.

After 324 days of captivity in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam, Madan Mitra was granted conditional bail from Alipore Court on Oct 31.

Challenging the judgement of the lower court, the CBI moved to the Calcutta High Court on Nov 3 to get revoked Madan Mitra's bail and a division bench comprising of Justice Nishita Mhatre and Tapas Mukherjee on Thursday afternoon canceled the bail.

Madan Mitra reached Alipore Court to surrender before the ACJM on Thursday evening. As the copy of the Calcutta High Court's judgement did not reach Alipore Court, the ACJM and Madan Mitra had waited for hours.

However, the order's copy was taken to Alipore Court around 11:30 pm. and the court sent Mitra to judicial custody till Dec 3.

The ACJM also directed the jail authority to treat Madan Mitra as a first-class prisoner and to provide necessary medical support.

Madan Mitra was taken to Alipore Central Jail around 12:05 am on Friday.

He will be produced to the court again on Dec 3.

After a marathon questioning session, the CBI arrested Madan Mitra on Dec 12 last year for his alleged involvement in multi-crore Saradha financial scam.
