Poachers killed another rhino in Kaziranga

Guwahati, Nov 22 (IBNS): Poachers killed another one horned rhinoceros in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and managed to flee with its horn on Saturday night.

Forest guards of the UNESCO’s heritage site found the bullet injuries dehorned carcass of a male rhino inside the park on Sunday morning.

The incident took place at Burapahar range area under the KNP.

“We heard the firing sounds last night but could not found the site where poachers killed the rhino. Forest guards found the bullet injuries carcass today morning,” a forest official said.

“We have found 26 nos empty cartridge of AK series rifle near the carcass,” the official said.

Poachers killed at least 23 rhinos in the state including 13 alone in Kaziranga  in this year so far.
