WB: Army jawan, held for raping minor girl, brought to Howrah
According to reports, a 14-year-old girl, who is a resident of Kolkata's Dumdum area, fled from her house and boarded Punjub bound Amritsar Mail from Howrah Railway Station on Sunday.
Three Army personnel allegedly gang-raped her for more than six time inside a compartment, reserved for the Indian Army.
After getting information, the Jharkhand GRP stopped the train at Madhupur station and rescued the girl in an unconscious state from the compartment and arrested one Army man, Manjrish Tripathi (40)- on Sunday night.
However, the girl was taken to Howrah and the accused jawan was handed over to Howrah GRP on Tuesday.
Madhupur station GRP post's OC Arjun Tiwari told IBNS, "The girl told us that she was fleeing to Ludhiana in Punjab and was gang-raped for as many as six times by two Army personnel. We have held one jawan- Manjrish Tripathi (RT Battalion 72, Eastern Command) from the train. He was not directly involved in the incident. He he has been booked for supporting others."
"We have identified the rest two and they will be arrested very soon. Besides the Howrah GRP, we will also investigate separately," he added.
After medical test, the victim's statement has been recorded by Howrah District Magistrate.
The Indian Army will also be sending an investigation team from Fort William, sources said.
