Restrictions in Srinagar after Shia cleric's execution in Saudi Arabia
Deputy Commissioner of Police Srinagar, told IBNS that restrictions will remain in force in areas falling under Zadibal and Rainwari police stations to preempt protests from members of the Shia community.
“Strict restrictions have been imposed in Rainawari and Zadibal of Srinagar,” he said.
On Sunday, dozens of protesters were taken into preventive custody in Kashmir as protests were held in the Shia-populated pockets of capital Srinagar and its neighboring districts.
On Saturday, Saudi Arabia said it had executed 47 prisoners, including a prominent Shiite cleric Nimr al Nimr responsible for anti-government protests.
Al-Nimr was a central figure in protests that erupted in 2011 as part of the Arab Spring, and his execution may spark new unrest among the
oil powerhouse's Shiite minority.
