Guwahati, Jan 24 (IBNS): Thirteen militant groups of North-East India have called for a total shutdown in the region on Jan 26 to protest against the nation’s Republic Day celebration.

In a joint statement, United Liberation Front of WeSEA (UNLFW), Coordination Committee of Manipur (CorCom), Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) have called a total shutdown in the region to protest against the Republic Day celebration.

“We call upon our citizens to make a strong, clear message, and protest against the imposed celebration of the forthcoming Republic day in our WESEA region,” the militant groups said in a joint statement.

“We are also calling for a total shutdown of our region from 12.01 am to 6 pm of January 26,” said in the statement mailed to media.

The UNLFW was formed by ULFA (I), NDFB, NSCN (K) and KLO last year.
