Anti-Oommen Chandy protests rock Kerala, CM in soup over solar scam
On Friday, protests rocked Thiruvanthapuram as activists of opposition parties clashed with the police who used batons to disperse them.
Chandy has also approached the High Court after a court ordered filing of an FIR against him.
Earlier, Saritha Nair, one of the two main accused in the scam, has told a former judge investigating the case that the Chief Minister and other Congress leaders called her mother in 2013 and asked her not to reveal anything. She also alleged that they promised to "return the money taken from me".
A court in Thrissur had on Thursday asked the police to file a First Information Report against the Chief Minister. The order came after a complaint over Saritha Nair's allegation that a bribe of nearly two crores was paid to the personal staff of the chief minister.
Saritha Nair and her partner Biju Radhakrishnan were arrested in 2013 on charges of collecting crores from industrialists after promising them solar panels at cheaper rates, and also using political connections to land big contracts.
The Chief Minister spent nearly 11 hours on Monday being questioned by the inquiry panel. He has refused to take a lie-detector test as suggested by Saritha Nair's lawyer.
