JNU row: Left Front to host protest march in Kolkata on Feb 21
Kolkata, Feb 19 (IBNS): Protesting against the Centre's handling of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) row, the Left Front (LF) has called for a rally in Kolkata on Feb 21.
After meeting the leaderships of 13 Left parties, LF chairman Biman Bose on Friday announced to hold the protest march in the city, on International Mother Language Day.
During a press conference here, Biman Bose told the media, "To protest against the JNU incident, where freedom of speech and democratic rights were attacked, we are calling for a rally on February 21, International Mother Language Day in Kolkata."
"I would request to all other Left organizations of Bengal and those people, who respect the democracy, to join our rally," Bose further said.
The protest march will start at 3 pm. on Feb 21 (Sunday) from Mahajati Sadan premise and conclude at Vasha Udyan in the city.
The JNU is currently facing protests and counter protests with the police cracking down on students over the anti-India slogans raised earlier to mark the death anniversary of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru on its campus in the national capital.
