BJP follows divisive ideology: PM

Kochi, Apr 6 (IBNS): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said India's main opposition party follows 'divisive ideology'.

He said the Congress could only counter the divisive ideology of the country's main opposition.

"I have always believed that the people of Kerala are wise and discerning. Your State is a shining example of a tolerant, pluralistic and secular society. Over the years you have proved time and again that Kerala has no space for a divisive party like the BJP," Singh said on Sunday.

"With the Left parties poised to suffer even further losses this time, it is only the Congress party that can counter the divisive ideology of the BJP.  I urge you to contribute to this cause," he said.

Attacking the Left rule in the Kerala, Singh said: "You have had experience of Left rule in the State. Our Left friends have either been unable to or have refused to change with the times. The result is that their policies and programmes do not take into account the realities of the day and lead to a slow down of the processes of growth and development."

"The people of India have recognized this and that is why the Left parties suffered heavy losses in the 2009 General elections and also lost Kerala and West Bengal in the subsequent Assembly elections. I believe that the Left parties will continue to decline unless they show some willingness to change their dogmatic ways of thinking," he said.
