India approaches UK for deportation of Mallya
New Delhi, Apr 28 (IBNS) The Indian government approached the UK High Commission in New Delhi on Thursday for the deportation of liquor baron Vijay Mallya, according to media reports.
The government has written to the High Commission about the deportation.
Almost a week ago, following the issue of non-bailable arrest warrant, the Enforcement Directorate had approached the external affairs ministry for deportation proceedings against Mallya.
In a significant move, the Ethics Committee of the Rajya Sabha on Monday recommended liquid baron Vijay Mallya's expulsion from the Upper House of the Indian Parliament.
Mallya is wanted in India for defaulting on repayment of the bank loans.
The Committee has given Mallya a week's time to give his response.
The issue of Mallya's expulsion was discussed during a meeting of the Committee on Monday.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) earlier finally revoked Vijay Mallya's passport as the liquid baron is wanted in India for defaulting on repayment of the bank loans.
