Sonia, Rahul, Manmohan breathe fire at save democracy rally
At a mega rally in Delhi, addressed by party President Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the party top brass alleged that the government is also apathetic to the plight of the poor, especially farmers.
The 'Save Democracy' rally, as it has been named, is held at a time when the Congress and the ruling BJP are in a battle on several issues in Parliament.
In a fiery speech, Sonia Gandhi alleged that the Modi government, in its two years, has started destroying everything. " Every step they take is destroying the democracy," she added.
But Gandhi declared that the Congress will not let the government's "dangerous plans" succeed.
"I want to tell them that no matter what you accuse us of, we will not be afraid. If they think they can remove the Congress, then I’m afraid, they do not know what the Congress is made of," she said in an obvious reference to the AgustaWestland chooper scam that the BJP has raked up to pin down the Congress.
"Life has taught me to fight," the Congress President said.
The Congress supremo alleged that under the present rule everybody is "troubled" and farmers are forced to commit suicides. "But the Modi government has closed their eyes," she said.
Gandhi alleged that the Modi Ggovernment came to power with "false promises and dreams" and did nothing for the people.
"Even now, all they care about is destabilizing the government in Arunachal and Uttarakhand" she said.
Speaking on the President's rule imposed in two Congress-ruled states, Rahul Gandhi accused the Centre of indulging in machinations to remove elected leaders and make government fall.
Dwelling on the issues like drought places like Latur and Bundelkhand, the Congress Vice President said Government does not care about the people's plight nor have its much hyped programmes like 'Make in India' been able to create employment.
"In the country today, only two people have a say: Mohan Bhagwat and Narendra Modi. No one dares to speak against them," the Gandhi scion said.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who described the Congress party as the "soul of India," was also almost equally unsparing in his criticism of the BJP-led Government, charging it with trying to obliterate the INC from the country's political map.
"For the last 2 years, since the BJP has come to power, we see only one slogan - that of a 'Congress Mukt Bharat'. (Congress-free Bharat). But I would like to tell PM Modi and the BJP that the Congress is the soul of India. Many have tried to remove the Congress but have failed," Singh said.
"Congress is like the flowing Ganga river. You can do what you like, but will never be able to stop it," he said.
