Woman gang raped in Kolkata: 3 suspects arrested

Kolkata, May 31 (IBNS): Police on Tuesday arrested three persons in connection with a gang rape case in Kolkata's IT hub Salt Lake Sector V area, officials said.

According to reports, three suspects Arnab Bera, Saurav Dey and Subhendu Nath, who are the residents of Beliaghata, Tapsia and Basanti in South 24 Parganas district respectively, were booked in connection with the gang rape case.

Earlier on Sunday midnight, a woman, who is a native of Nepal, was forcefully taken into a care from Baguiati area and allegedly gang raped by four men inside the running car for at least three hours.

She was dropped from the vehicle in Salt Lake's Baisakhi area in an unconscious state. Police rescued her on Mondaymorning and admitted her to Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital in serious condition.

After sever medical tests, it has been proven that she was raped, one doctor of the hospital confirmed.

One senior official of Bidhannagar City Police told IBNS: "We have booked three suspects in connection with the case and are searching for another person, who was reportedly there inside the car. After recording victim's statement, we started investigation. After examining CCTV footage of the areas and interrogating few witnesses, we caught the trio. During primary interrogation, they all acknowledged their guilts."

"A suspected Tata Sumo car, which might be used to commit the crime, has been recovered and seized. We are sending it for forensic tests," the officer further said.

However, the trio will be produced to a local court on Tuesday.
