Amit Shah seeks report about allegations against Maharashtra's revenue minister

Mumbai, June 2 (IBNS) Amit Shah, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president has sought reports about the twin allegations against Eknath Khadse, Maharashtra's revenue minister, from the state's chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, the media reported on Thursday.

According to media reports, the chief minister met Khadse on Monday.

One of the allegations is that Khadse's phone number has featured multiple times in wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim's call list and the other allegation is that Khadse's wife and brother-in-law bought a land parcel for about three crores, whose actual value is reportedly 23 crores.

On May 22,  AAP spokesperson Preeti Sharma Menon, during a press conference in Mumbai, had alleged that Khadse had links with Dawood over phone.

But Khadse rubbished her claims saying, "The charges are completely baseless. My question is, how did they find out Dawood's number? And if they have found his number, they should have gone to the police."

Khadse also said he had a written statement from his cellphone carrier where it was stated that he had not received any international calls in the last one year, media reported.

"Our initial analysis of the cellphone records indicated there have been neither incoming nor outgoing calls on the minister's number to that of the fugitive (Dawood) during the entire period of September 2015 to April 2016," senior police officer Atul Chandra Kulkarni had said in May.

But now the Maharashtra Anti Terror Squad is investigating the alleged phone calls case, according to media reports.

"Eknath Khadse lied about his phone being out of service. His number received several calls from Dawood Ibrahim's wife Mehjabeen Shaikh's number between September 4 2015 to April 5, 2016," Menon claimed Menon.

Reportedly, Khadse's wife and brother-in-law bought land for about rupees three crores while the market value of the land was around 23 crores.

Khadse claimed the land was not owned by the government and he bought it from a private party. He also said that he paid the stamp duty or tax on the market value of the plot.
