Jharkhand under two-day economic blockade

Ranchi/Jamshedpur, Jun 11 (IBNS): Protesting against the domicile policy issued by Raghubar Das-led government, the Jharkhand Vikash Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P), backed by several other opposition parties, is holding a two-day long economic blockade in the state from Saturday.

The blockade will be continued till Sunday.

JVM-P supremo and former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Babulal Marandi said, "We are protesting on 108 pre-determined points. We have decided to block all lifting and transportation of minerals from Jharkhand and our blockade is underway at several mineral-rich points."

According to the party sources, it has sent letters to several opposition parties, including Congress, BJP, Left parties, JDU, RJD and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), officials of mining companies, chamber of commerce, industrialists and truck owners' unions, seeking their support.

Few opposition parties have already supported the blockade.

To avoid any untoward situation during the two-day strike, Jharkhand Police have alerted the SPs and other senior officials of all mineral-rich districts, including Ranchi, East and West Singbhum, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Chatra and Hazaribag. A heavy police force have been deployed at several locations to maintain the law and order.

Meanwhile, the situation in West Singhum district's industrial city Jamshedpur is under control so far. Mixed effects of the strike have been reported from several parts of the state.
