Kolkata, Jun 17 (IBNS): Nearly a month after she took oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee on Friday ordered a probe into the Narada sting video case which had hit the ruling party before the Assembly polls.
Banerjee said the string was a 'conspiracy' to misguide people before polls.

The probe will be conducted by Kolkata Police Commissioner  Rajeev Kumar.

Speaking to reporters at state secretariat Nabanna, Banerjee said: "I discussed the matter with the Chief Secretary and the Home Secretary and decided to order a probe by the police into the matter."

"The truth must come out since I believe that there was a conspiracy before polls to misguide people," she said.

Mamata Banerjee and her TMC came to power for a second term after winning the Assembly polls that was held this year. Banerjee took oath as the Chief Minister of the state on May 27.

Speaking on the probe, Banerjee said: "It was my commitment and I could not order it earlier owing to polls."

The West Bengal Chief Minister said that action will be taken after investigation into the matter is completed.

Narada News portal's CEO Mathew Samuel said the sting operation was not a conspiracy.

Reacting on this matter, Narada News portal's CEO Mathew Samuel told IBNS, "As the matter is currently subjudicial in the Calcutta High Court, I won't comment on it. Let the honourable court decide which agency would investigate the matter. I would like to confirm it again that the sting operation was not a conspiracy."

Meanwhile, opposition parties mocked her announcement and called it a new drama by the ruling party.

Congress leader Abdul Mannan said the announcement was aimed at giving clean chit to the accused.

CPI-M MLA Sujan Chakraborty told media: "This is a new drama. The government has no credibility on the matter."

Since March 14, news portal- Narada News- released several sting operation footage, where TMC's leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were exposed while allegedly taking bribes.

From the beginning, TMC leaderships had claimed that the sting footage was doctored and was a conspiracy of oppositions.

Three Public Interest Litigations (PIL), demanding the CBI and ED joint probe into Narada sting operation, are subjudicial in division bench of Calcutta High Court, comprising of Chief Justice Manjulla Chellur and Justice Arijit Banerjee. The division bench has sent the raw sting footage to a Hyderabad laboratory for forensic test.
