Pampore attack: Lashkar claims responsibility, questions of security lapse raised

Srinagar, June 26 (IBNS): Pakistan based terror outfit Lashar-e-Taiba has claimed responsibility of the militant attack on a CRPF vehicle near Pampore on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Saturday which left eight security personnel killed while injuring 22 and raised questions of serious security lapse in the state, media reports said on Sunday.
The gruesome attack has now raised serious threats of security lapse in the state.

Two Lashkar  militants were shot dead during retaliation fire while two more militants fled from the spot, officials said.

This is the deadliest attack since 2013. On June 24, 2013 militants ambushed an army convoy at Hyderpora Bypass in Srinagar, killing eight army soldiers.

NDTV quoting sources reported that there was denial on the part of the authority regarding an intelligence failure regarding this attack.

however, the sources also said that the attack took place despite inputs about possible attacks at Pampore in the Pulwama district and a high alert being sounded for troops.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the militant attack.

“The only purpose of such blood-spattered acts of violence is to add to the tragedies and miseries of the people and subvert the Government’s efforts aimed at bringing permanent peace and prosperity to Jammu and Kashmir,” the Chief Minister had said in a statement.

Mehbooba had also said the elements inimical to interests of Jammu and Kashmir have always tried to derail the peace efforts and the latest militant strike at Pampore was again aimed at subverting the peace and development initiatives launched by the Government.
