New Delhi, July 5 (IBNS): In a major Cabinet reshuffle at the Centre, the Narendra Modi government on Tuesday removed Smriti Irani as the Human Resource Development Minister and instead appointed Prakash Javadekar to hold the portfolio.
Prakash Javadekar was elevated to cabinet rank on Tuesday morning.

Irani has been assigned the portfolio of the Textile Ministry, which is considered as a less important one.

In another major change, Venkaiah Naidu will now be Minister for Information and Broadcasting, a portfolio held by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley as an additional charge.

Sadananda Gowda has lost the Law Ministry which will be now headed by Ravi Shankar Prasad, who is also the Telecom Minister.

Naidu has been released of the Parliamentary Affairs portfolio, which will now be held by Ananth Kumar.

However, Naidu will retain the Urban Development Ministry.

Barely hours after the new ministers were sworn-in, they have their job cut out as PM Modi urged them to work positively for transforming India.

"Congrats to newly sworn-in colleagues. Let's work together to bring a positive difference & for #TransformingIndia," the PM tweeted greeting his new colleagues.

The cabinet also boasts of two newly elected female members, Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal (BJP's ally in UP) and Krishna Raj.
