Passenger molestation: Uber blocks driver

Kolkata, July 6 (IBNS): Cab service provider Uber on Wednesday said the driver, who has been arrested in Kolkata for allegedly misbehaving and molesting a female passenger, has been 'blocked' from using their platform.

The company said it will continue supporting the investigations into the case as needed by the police.

"We have shared the driver and trip details with the police and will continue to support investigations as required. The driver has been blocked from using our platform. The background check conducted on the driver indicates no prior criminal record," Uber spokesperson told IBNS.

According to reports, one 27-year-old woman boarded an Uber cab (White Swift Dzire- WB 19H 2052) on Monday night from Beliaghata S. N. Bose Road area. The woman picked her friend up from Salt Lake GD Block and dropped her at Beliaghata.

Thereafter the woman asked the driver to drop at Salt Lake EC Block. She claimed that theUber driver misbehaved with her and also molested her while dropping her in Salt Lake.

The passenger lodged an complaint against the Uber driver at Bidhannagar North Police Station. Police on Tuesday arrested the accused Uber driver, Santu Pramanik, from EM Bypass area.
