Narendra Modi visits Pietermaritzburg Railway Station, remembers Mahatma Gandhi

Durban, Jul 9 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi went back in time as he arrived at the Pietermaritzburg Railway Station in South Africa on Saturday and visited the the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was offloaded from the train.

Modi, as he travelled in the train, recalled the journey by Gandhi, which had become a turning point in the latter's life.

"Remembering a memorable journey of the great Mahatma, which altered the course of human history," Modi tweeted.

He also visited an exhibition which is being hosted at the waiting room where Gandhi spent a night.

"Centuries ago but remembered even now...an exhibition at the waiting room where Gandhi ji spent a night" PMO India tweeted.

Modi boarded the train in memory of the 1893 incident when Mahatma Gandhi was thrown out of a train compartment due to  skin colour.

Modi is currently visiting South Africa.
