No arrest for Zakir Naik as SID hands clean chit

Mumbai, July 12 (IBNS): After days of turbulence, Muslim preacher and tele-evangelist Zakir Naik can breathe a sigh of relief as he has been handed a clean chit by the Maharashtra State Intelligence Department (SID), who said that there isn't enough evidence for Naik's arrest.

Earlier sleuths had said that Naik was allegedly involved in the recent Dhaka restaurant terror attack, after an attacker confessed that the preacher's words inspired him to carry on with the ambush.

However, the ban on Peace TV will remain.

A senior SID officer was quoted as saying by The Hindu, "There is no case to be made out against the English-speaking preacher, except maybe the possible charge of hurting religious sentiments, but even that cannot be established from his speeches. We are tracking his movements and only if he speaks out of turn, can we ‘pin’ him down on a charge. For now, we are closely monitoring him."

The SID has studied over hundreds of Naik's videos before concluding the case.
