New Delhi, July 16 (IBNS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday informed that 148 Indian students and 38 officials, who participated in World Schools Sports Meet, are stranded in Turkey after a military coup attempt in the country on Friday night.
She also informed that the students are safe.

"The games are on. They will start returning in batches from 18th July," she posted.

A military coup on Friday night caught the Turks off guard leaving more than 250 dead in Ankara, reports said.

Friday night in Ankara was marked by explosions, air battles and gunfire that led to massive bloodshed.

Condemning the incident, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that it is 'an act of treason'.

About 3000 people had been reportedly arrested so far.

A shoot down order has been imposed by authorities, where any aircraft used by the coup plotters will be shot down.

The whereabouts of Turkey's military chief of staff, an alleged key plotter, is still unknown.

According to reports, officers from the Air Force, the military police and the armored units were mainly involved in the attempt.
