Ahead of Parl session, PM Modi appeals to Opposition to help pass GST Bill
New Delhi, July 17 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held an all-party meeting ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament where he appealed to the Opposition to help pass the crucial Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill.
"GST is of national importance. Issue is not which government gets credit. Important Bills, including GST will be taken up in the monsoon session and I hope for meaningful discussions and outcomes," Modi was quoted as saying by media in the all-party meeting.
Calling MPs representatives of people, he urged all to keep national interests above political differences.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has also called for an all-party meeting in the evening.
The Monsoon Session of the Parliament commences on Monday.
In this session, the government hopes to pass the GST Bill.
The BJP-led NDA Government has been trying hard to push through the Bill, but has so far failed in its bid in the face of strong opposition in the Rajya Sabha, where the ruling party is in a minority.
