New Delhi, July 30 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited Assam on Saturday to take stock of the situation in the flood-affected areas.

Rajnath Singh, accompanied by Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, conducted an aerial survey of the worst hit districts of Nagaon, Morigaon and Kaziranga.

He also met the family members of those affected by the floods at the Bhagatgaon relief camp in Morigaon district.

Later the Union Home Minister chaired a high level meeting with Sonowal, Dr. Jitendra Singh and Senior Officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs and State Government to review the flood rescue and relief operations.

Rajnath Singh said the situation is grim but the Chief Minister and his team are doing well in managing the situation.

He said the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are working on the ground. The NDRF along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Army have saved more than 6,000 lives in Assam, he added.

The Union Home Minister said it is heartwarming to see the government and other political representatives helping the rescue and relief operations.

Rajnath Singh said the Centre is ready to provide all possible help.

“I have received a memorandum from Assam government. An inter-ministerial Central team will soon visit Assam,” he added.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who also accompanied Rajnath Singh to Guwahati, undertook an aerial survey of the flood fury in other areas of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Kiren Rijiju said the Central Forces are working with the State team in conducting flood rescue and relief operations.
