Manohar Parrikar lands in controversy after attacking Aamir Khan

New Delhi, July 31 (IBNS): Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has landed in a controversy after attacking Aamir Khan for the actor's last year's comments on intolerance, where he said that his wife Kiran Rao expressed apprehensions about staying in India.

While speaking at a book release function in Pune, Parrikar in an indirect attack said: "An actor had said his wife was afraid of living in this country. How dare anyone speaks like this about our country?"

Condemning the statement by Aamir Khan on intolerance last year, Parrikar said: "If anyone speaks like this he has to be taught a lesson."

"It was an arrogant statement. However poor my family is, however small my house is, I have to love my house," he added.

Following his comments, Parrikar has now been attacked by the Congress.

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted: "Shameful that @manoharparrikar threatens 'teaching a lesson' to 'actors', instead of training his guns elsewhere."

He wrote: "Shocking revelation by @manoharparrikar that BJP supporters actively disrupted, sabotaged Snapdeal on Aamir Khan issue. Scandalous!"

Surjewala posted: "Is @manoharparrikar job to protect India from external aggressors like Pakistan or threaten fellow countrymen like actor Aamir Khan?"

Attacking the BJP-led Centre, the Congress leader said: "@manoharparrikar's statement proves a concerted conspiracy to curb all dissent, hound Dalits & Minorities. Can this be the 'Raj Dharma'?"

Last year Aamir Khan was criticised strongly after he said at an event that incidents of intolerance are affecting citizens of the country.

He had said that even his own wife was scared to live in India.

The statement had created a huge controversy and a police case was filed against him and his wife Kiran Rao too.
