WB: Rocket launcher, rocket, AK-47 recovered in Purulia
According to reports, two arms dealers- Rathu Pramanik and Jamaluddin Ansari- were arrested on July 24 from the same village and they are in police custody.
A 9 mm carbine, two magazines and couple of bullets were seized from Jamaluddin's possession.
After interrogating them, police conducted a search operation at Khatanga village and recovered the firearms.
A senior official of Purulia district police told IBNS, "Acting on a tip off, we arrested two persons and after interrogating them, we have seized several ultra-modern firearms from Khatanga village under Kotshila PS area."
"We have started investigation into the matter and are taking assistance from the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to know if there is any link between the 1995 Purulia Arms Drop case and these firearms recovery," he added.
On December 17 in 1995, a huge cache of unauthorized firearms were dropped in Purulia district from an Antonov An-26 aircraft. Few of those arms were landed at Khatinga village as well.
Meanwhile, the CRPF's COBRA force on Friday midnight recovered as many as four powerful landmines from Bengal-Jharkhand border area at Belpahari in West Bengal's West Medinipur district.
