Opposition slams Modi Government on Kashmir issue in Rajya Sabha
Initiating a five-hour debate on Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad also held the Modi Governmnt responsible for troubles in the valley and elsewhere in India.
''I appreciate PM Modi's statement on Kashmir and his appeal to Kashmiri youth for shunning the path of violence. But we all want to know why it took the PM to break his silence on the issue," Azad said referring to Modi's comments on Kashmir while addressing a rally in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.
"The PM tweets and expresses his condolences if anything happens in a far-off nation. Why silent on Kashmir ? He addressed the Kashmir situation from MP and not from Parliament," he said.
Pointing out that Kashmir has been in flames and under curfew for 33 days, Azad blamed the Government for the situation. "Fire has caught wherever this Government has stepped in. Kashmir is burning because the BJP has stepped in there."
The Congress leader alleged that the PM made the statement at the rally only for political gains, but there was an urgent need for "integration of hearts" with the people of Kashmir to improve the situation. "You talk about integration of India, what about integration of hearts ? ....Don't love only the valley for its beauty, love the people of Kashmir as well," he said.
