J&K: CRPF officer, 2 terrorists killed in Nowhatta encounter

Srinagar, Aug 15 (IBNS): In a nearly five- hour- long encounter in Nowhatta region of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer and two terrorists were killed while 9 other jawans were injured.

On a day when the whole of India indulged in the celebration of 70th Independence Day, terrorists opened fire on security forces in Nowhatta region around 8 am.

They attacked the CRPF men who were patrolling the largely residential area.

According to reports, the attack by the terrorists came from all sides.

The Indian forces retaliated which later killed two terrorists.

This comes even as the capital of Jammu and Kashmir is on high security alert for Independence Day.

The northern state is on boil ever since the encounter of 22-year-old top Hizb Commander Burhan Wani by Indian security forces.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his I-Day speech from Red Fort in New Delhi made a firm statement that terrorism will not be tolerated on Indian soil.

In a clear attack to Pakistan, PM Modi said there is a difference between those people who were brought up under the influence of humanism and those who reward terrorism.

Addressing the nation from the Red Fort, Modi said when innocent kids were killed in the Peshawar school attack, every child in India felt the shock of the massacre, but on the other hand in the neighbouring country, "terrorism is being glorified."

Without naming Pakistan, Modi slammed: "When innocent people are killed in terrorist attacks, there are celebrations. What kind of life is this which is inspired by terrorism?"

"How governments are formed through inspiration of terrorism. The world will understand this difference clearly. That is enough for me," said he.

Modi's comments come at a time when Pakistan High Commissioner to Delhi Abdul Basit on Sunday provoked India and said that his country will dedicate its Independence Day celebration to 'Kashmir's freedom'.

Pakistan on July 10 condemned the killing of top Hizb Commander Burhan Wani in Jammu and Kashmir by Indian security forces.

The neighbouring country also observed 'Black Day' on July 20 over the death of militant leader Burhan Wani.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had said Kashmir is not an internal issue of India.
