New Delhi, Sept 3 (IBNS): Following a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al Sisi on Friday, President Pranab Mukherjee said that India sees Egypt as a bridge between Asia and Africa.

"India sees Egypt as a bridge between Asia and Africa and a prominent player in Africa and the Arab world," President Mukherjee said on Saturday.

"India and Egypt have together contributed and continue to facilitate peace and development in the region and beyond," he added.

However, sounding alert, President Mukherjee said that the two nations must unite to fight 'shadowy spectre of radicalism' which is plaguing their respective region.

"Our respective regions are plagued by the shadowy spectre of radicalism that must be dealt with strongly and unitedly," he said.

"India and Egypt share a convergence on regional and global issues," President Mukherjee said.

"New modes of co-operation and collaboration are emerging and new actors are rapidly entering the stage," he stated.

President Mukherjee also warned against complacency and said that both the nations should continue to strive to achieve higher milestones.

"While we take satisfaction in the state of our relations, we must continue to strive to achieve higher milestones," he said.
