A hardcore NDFB(S) militant killed in Assam encounter

Guwahati, Sept 6 (IBNS) : A hardcore militant belonging to NDFB(S) was killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam's Kokrajhar district on Tuesday morning, police said.

Based on intelligence input, a police team led by ADGP Dr LR Bisnoi had launched operation at Mainaopur village under Kachugaon police station in the BTAD district on Monday night where a Bodo militant group was hiding.

"When troops reached the remote area militants had started fire and bullets were exchanged. In the fierce gun battle a militant was injured and another managed to escape from the area. The injured militant was rushed to nearest hospital but succumbed his injuries," Assam police ADGP Dr LR Bisnoi said.

The slain militant was identified as Agun Basumutary and he was Closed with NDFB(S) top leader B Bidai.

Police had recovered one AK-81 rifle with magazine, 11 rounds ammunition, 21 empty fire cases, two HE36 grenades, Rs 21,000 cash, organisation recruitment form, other war like stores from the area.

In past two years at least 58 militants of the outfit group were killed during gun battle with security forces in the state.
