Delhi HC sets aside Govt's order to appoint 21 lawmakers as Parliamentary Secretaries

New Delhi, Sept 8 (IBNS) : In a big setback to Arvind Kejriwal's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Delhi High Court has set aside the Government's order appointing 21 lawmakers as parliamentary secretaries, reports said.

In June, President Pranab Mukherjee had refused to sign the Delhi Government's bill that allowed the lawmakers to hold the position of  parliamentary secretary, which would open up a second paying office for an elected member.

The AAP had earlier defended the appointments in court, arguing that such appointments do not amount to creation of a "public office".

The party said that the lawmakers would not be paid by the Government, though they would  use government transport for official purposes and space in the ministers' offices.
