Sidhu sent his resignation to BJP President Amit Shah.
The cricketer-turned-politician had resigned from the Rajy Sabha on July 18, stoking speculations over the possibility of his joining the Aam Aadmi Party.
On September 8, he launched the 'Awaaz-e-Punjab', saying his move is to fight against the system and the leaders who had "ruined" Punjab.
The new party will contest all 117 assembly seats in the Punjab Assembly elections to be held early next year.
