Uran terror threat : House-to-house search by NSG on the lookout for suspects

Mumbai, Sept 23 (IBNS) : NSG commandos on Friday started searching every house in Uran, a Navi Mumbai town, amid a high alert sounded throughout the Mumbai coast and adjoining areas after a group of armed men were reportedly spotted moving suspiciously near a naval base.

Reports said the decision to go for an extensive house-to-house search was taken after an hour-long meeting of senior officials considering the high possibility of the suspects hiding in one of the many houses in the town.

The search started shortly after the noon.

By 12 noon, the district administration ordered all schools, colleges, government offices and courts to remain closed.

After three school children on Thursday morning reported about the movement of a group of men, attired in black and carrying arms, near the naval base, a multi-agency combing has been going on in the area, so far yielding no result.

Late Thursday night, the police released a sketch of one of the suspects and circulated it among all the investigating agencies.

The sketch was based on the description provided by the school students.

Movement of security personnel is more extensive on second day of the operation. Security personnel carried out search operations upto Elephanta caves under Mora police station.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appealed to citizens not to panic and said all precautions were being taken and that massive combing operations were on.

Meanwhile, security agencies continue to guard vantage points and frisk people.
