Karnataka Legislative Council adopts unanimous resolution against releasing Cauvery water to TN
The resolution was adopted at a special session convened following the turmoil over sharing of water.
A similar resolution has been moved in the Assembly, where the matter is being discussed.
"This House notes that in the water year 2016-17 there has been an acute situation of distress but the actual shortfall in the basin will be known only on January 31, 2017. Further, this House noted that the combined storage in the four reservoirs of KRS, Kabini, Harangi and Hemavathi have reached alarmingly low levels with only 27.6 TMC of water," the resolution said.
It states that "no water from the present storage be drawn except for meeting the drinking water requirements of Bangalore and villages and towns in the Cauvery basin."
Recently, the Supreme Court directed Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water from the Cauvery to Tamil Nadu, which the people of the state and political parties have resented.
Widespread agitation has been going on in the state in protest.
