Government to stand with the people in their struggle: Assam CM

Guwahati, Oct 2 (IBNS) : Reiterating the government’s commitment to stand with the people in their times of need, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday said that health sector of the state is going through massive transformation and people’s health needs will be taken care of by the Government Health Department on war footing.

Speaking at the cheque distribution function of Assam Arogya Nidhi to beneficiaries under National Health Mission at Guwahati Medical College Auditorium, the Assam CM said that all pending Arogya Nidhi applications have been cleared.

On February next year, similar function will be held by the government and cheques will be distributed amongst all eligible beneficiaries again.


A total of 1978 beneficiaries were given Assam Arogya Nidhi cheques for life threatening ailments such as cancer, kidney diseases, heart ailments etc with the objective of giving a helping hand in their fight against the diseases.

Out of these 1978 beneficiaries, 1548 were cancer patients, 79 were kidney disease patients, 154 had heart ailments and rest 197 comprised of patients suffering from other ailments.

Similarly, with a view to provide benefits to people for treatment of critical diseases, government has also announced Atal Amrit Abhiyan on Sunday coinciding the programme.

This Abhiyan, which will be fully functional from April 1 next year will provide financial benefit upto Rs. 2 lakh and will help patients for treatment of diseases like Cancer, Heart ailment, kidney disease, burn etc. Beneficiaries could avail the benefit of the Abhiyan by producing the Atatl Amrit Abhiyan Card at any hospital in the country.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other top officials of health department were present on the occasion among others.
