Baramulla attack: One jawan martyred

Srinagar, Oct 3 (IBNS): At least two militants and a jawan were killed during an attack at an army base in Baramulla town of north Kashmir on Sunday, officials said.

A senior police official in Baramulla  earlier told IBNS, "Operation called off for night and it will resume early in the morning."

According to reports, one BSF jawan was killed while another was seriously injured in the  attack.

Defence sources said two militants were also killed in the ongoing encounter.

Sources said militants started heavy firing with automatic weapons on 46 RR camp in Janbazpora area of the district.

Militants reportedly lobbed many grenades inside the camp.

Soon after the firing, more reinforcement rushed to the area to engage with the militants.

Amid mass anger in India over the Uri Army camp attack in Kashmir, India on Wednesday past midnight carried out surgical strikes crossing the Line of Control (LoC) into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, targeting terrorist launchpads working from within the neighbouring country, the army said.

The strikes were launched by the Indian Army at the KG sector of Poonch district. Two Pakistani soldiers were reportedly killed. Pakistan denied that there were surgicalattacks calling India's claims as "fabrication of truth" but Pak PM Nawak Sharif warned India against any aggression.

The attack in Uri had left 19 Indian soldiers martyred on Sept 18.
